Softball falls in extra innings to Marshall

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – It was a hard luck start of the 2017 season for the Lipscomb Lady Bisons softball team.

In the first game of the Unconquered Invitational at Florida State’s JoAnne Graf Field Friday morning Lipscomb fell 2-1 in eight innings to Marshall.

The Lady Bisons are back in action this afternoon when they play host Florida State, the No.3-ranked team in the nation.

Lipscomb struck first in the top of the second. Mimi Cartwright was hit by a pitch and Hannah DeVault drove her home with a double to left center.

In the bottom of the sixth Marshall’s Taylor McCord hit a solo home down the left field line on an 0-2 count.

In the eighth Elicia D’Orazio singled to short and stole second. She advanced to third on a ground out to second and stole home to win the game.

Mandy Jordan went the distance for the Lady Bisons. She struck out five and did not walk a batter. She scattered eight hits, only one for extra bases.

Right-hander Jordan Dixon pitched for Marshall, allowing five hits, two for extra bases. She struck out 11.
