NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The stands at Draper Diamond at Smith Stadium were empty except for a couple of stragglers.
The final game of the Purple and Gold Challenge, a 4-0 win for the Lipscomb Lady Bisons over Eastern Illinois, had been over for more than 20 minutes. But on a gray, blustery Sunday afternoon Khayla Green was alone in the batting cage working on her swing.
“We just went 4-0 for the weekend,” Lipscomb coach Kristin Ryman said. “We are playing well as a team. We just finished a long weekend and we have hitters who want to stay and work after a game day. Khayla wants to take the extra cuts.
“That shows a lot of maturity and a lot of drive. That is one of the reasons I am so impressed with this team right now.”
The Lady Bisons, 15-5, enter Wednesday’s home game with Campbell, 14-9, with a six-game winning streak and wins in nine of their last 10 games. Campbell started the day Wednesday with an 8-6 win at Austin Peay.
The game will start at 4 p.m., a shift in the starting time due to Campbell playing Austin Peay in Clarksville Wednesday morning after a doubleheader was called due to weather issues Tuesday.
The Lady Bisons are ready to get back on the field no matter what the starting time.
“We had girls out here Friday after our first game who wanted to take extra ground balls and fly balls,” Ryman said. “They are motivated as a team. They want to be better.
‘That is all them. We have a team where anybody can step in and be a starter at any time. And each one of them wants it to be them.”
