NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Like the river Mandy Jordan keeps on rolling along.
She struck out a career-high 14 batters on the way to a 3-1 win over Austin Peay State in the first game of a doubleheader.
Jordan struck out the first eight batters she faced to set the pace Saturday afternoon at sun-splashed Draper Diamond at Smith Stadium. Lipscomb is 19-7. Austin Peay is 8-12.
McCarley Thomas is in the circle in game two for Lipscomb.
The Lady Bisons used aggressive base running in the first inning. On a double steal Caitlin Plocheck stole second and Abby Fenichel stole home.
In the second Chloe Yeager led off with a double to center field. She eventually scored on a single to shortstop by Destinee Brewer.
The big hit for the Lady Bisons came in the sixth inning as Plocheck led off with a home run blast to left field.
The only run for Austin Peay was in the fourth when Kacy Acree hit a solo homer.
Jordan, 13-3, scattered three hits and walked one batter.
Kelsey Gross, 5-4, went the distance for the Governors. She gave up seven hits and three runs, all earned. She struck out two and walked one.
