Softball fails in attempt of series sweep at Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It was a season first the Lipscomb Lady Bisons softball team could have done without.

For the first time this season the Lady Bisons were the victims of a shutout, losing to Jacksonville 1-0 Sunday morning at the Pruitt Softball Complex. Lipscomb won the ASUN Conference series 2-1.

Lipscomb is 27-10 overall, 3-3 in the ASUN. Jacksonville is 22-16, 2-4 in the conference.

Mandy Jordan, 17-5, took the loss for Lipscomb. She gave up five hits, struck out five, walked one and hit one batter.

The Dolphins scored the lone run in the game in the fourth inning. Madison Ragan led off with a double to right center, one of her two hits. She scored on a single to second by Danielle Baker.

Taylor Thorpe, 8-4, allowed three hits, walked one batter and did not have a strikeout.

Scorebook notes:

  • Kasey Gibson, Abby Fenichel and Hannah DeVault each had a hit. Fenichel connected for her fourth double of the season.
  • Gibson leads with a five-game active hitting streak and an 11-game streak reaching base.

Next up: The Lady Bisons travel to Florence, Alabama Wednesday for a neutral field game with nationally-ranked Alabama. Game time is 6 p.m.
