NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb Lady Bisons open the week in their highest position in the NCAA softball RPI at 38th.

The last two weeks they have been at 42.

Tuesday night's game with Samford has been canceled due to expected rainy and stormy weather at game time. It will not be rescheduled.

“We reached as high as 28th in 2014, but that wasn’t the final ranking,” Lipscomb coach Kristin Ryman said. “That is as high we have been during a season. We have been at 33 and 36 and we are close to that range again.

“This is where we want to be. What is really cool about this team is we are not talking about all of that stuff. We are going about our business and trying to be better every day.”

Kennesaw State is ranked 43rd. USC Upstate is 48th to round out the ASUN Conference teams in the top 50.

The Lady Bisons are coming off 14 hits and seven runs in the series final with Stetson Sunday. Ryman has been waiting for the team to take the offense to a new level.

“Our goal is to get better every day,” Ryman said. “During a game we want to be better with each at bat and each pitch. We want to find a way to win every pitch and win the inning. If we take care of each inning the full seven will take care of themselves.

“This team is playing very much in the moment. We are like a lot of teams where we are hitting that midseason grind. Everybody is beat up. Everybody is tired. But we can’t let that dictate how we come out on game day.”

The Tuesday game offers a quick turnaround. Monday is usually a day off, but the Lady Bisons spent 45 minutes working on hitting.

“We had a shorter, lighter workout coming off a long weekend,” Ryman said, “But it was so productive.

“I just like where this team is right now. We got a little bit of rejuvenation on the offensive side this past weekend and that was good to see.”

NCAA stats: Pitcher Mandy Jordan continues to be among the top pitchers nationally in NCAA Division I.

Jordan is seventh in strikeouts with 200, 30th in earned run average at 1.27 and 37th in strikeouts per seven innings with 8.4

She is 12th in victories with 18 and 16th in shutouts with six.

Caitlin Plocheck is 29th in doubles with 12.

As a team the Lady Bisons are 33rd with a 2.13 ERA, 35th with a .972 fielding percentage and 38th in won-loss percentage at .707.

Next up: Due to the Easter weekend the Lady Bisons will play North Florida in an ASUN Conference doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. Friday. A single game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday.

North Florida is second with a 4-2 conference record. USC Upstate leads at 6-3. Lipscomb and Kennesaw State are tied for third at 5-4.
