NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb softball senior outfielder Kasey Gibson has been named to the College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® First Team for District 3.
As a first team selection Gibson is also eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team.
Gibson, from Churubusco, Indiana, has been named an NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete, as well as a member of the A-Sun All-Academic Team in previous seasons. In addition, she has served on Lipscomb’s FCA Leadership Team.
Heading into the final regular season series of the season Thursday and Friday at Florida Gulf Coast she is third on the team with a .310 batting average and is second in hits with 54 and third in runs batted in with 25. She is also second in total bases with 65.
“it is a tremendous honor for Kasey,” Lipscomb coach Kristin Ryman said, “She is the epitome of what we want in our program as far as being a quality student-athlete and being a well-rounded student-athlete.
“She has really had to earn everything she has gotten on the field. She has been a better player each year and that is a tribute to her work ethic. She has really been a spark for us this season at the top of the order. She has been very consistent for us all year.”
Gibson will graduate Saturday with a degree in corporate management. She has a 3.75 GPA.
“In the classroom she is the epitome of what we are looking for – girls who are driven, self-motivated and who can get the job done,” Ryman said. “I want girls who want to succeed… who are not going to settle for a B if they can find a way to get an A.
“Kasey is that player for us. I am excited at what has come her way this year. She has a great career ahead of her.”
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).
Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form.
