Three Lipscomb softball players earn ASUN All-Academic

LAKEPOINT, Ga. – The ASUN Conference has announced the 2017 Softball All-Academic Team.

Three Lipscomb players were selected by a vote from the conference media relations directors – pitchers McCarley Thomas and Mandy Jordan and center fielder Kasey Gibson.

Thomas, with a major in English-Teaching, graduated summa cum laude this past Saturday with a 3.95 grade point average.

Thomas set career highs in wins (12), strikeouts (120), batters struck out looking (31), innings pitched (127.1) and opposing batting average (.220).

Gibson, a corporate management major, graduated magna cum laude with a 3.76 average.

She has been one of the most consistent hitters on the team this season with a career-high .311 batting average. She is second on the team in multiple-hit games with 15 and tied for second in multiple-RBI games (6). She posted the second longest hitting streak on the team at 11 games and was fourth on the team as she reached base in 11 straight games.

Jordan, a sophomore, has a 3.47 average in fitness and sports science.

She is 10th in the NCAA in strikeouts with a career-high 246. She is 21st in victories (22), 27th in shutouts (7), 32nd in earned run average (1.48) and 33rd in strikeouts per innings pitched (8.1).

Overall in the ASUN she leads in strikeouts, batters struck out looking (61) and innings pitched (212.1). She is second in ERA, second in wins and third in opposing batting average (.201).

Lipscomb and USC Upstate each placed three players on the team.

To be eligible players needed a minimum of a 3.30 GPA and must have played in least half of their team's games.
