Softball to host Purple and Gold Challenge over weekend

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb softball team is coming home for the first time this season as the Lady Bisons are hosting the Purple and Gold Challenge over the weekend.

The Lady Bisons (9-2) are set to play four games over three days, while four other games will take place between the visiting teams.

The action will kick off on Friday as ETSU takes on Indiana State at 1 p.m., followed by the Lady Bisons first game at 3:30 against Georgia Southern.

Saturday will begin with a 10 a.m. matchup between Georgia Southern and Indiana State. Lipscomb will play two tilts Saturday: 12:30 p.m. against ETSU and 3 p.m. versus Georgia Southern. Saturday will finish with an Indiana State- ETSU battle at 5:30.

ETSU and Georgia Southern will get things started on Sunday at noon, and Lipscomb will close out the weekend with a 2:30 p.m. game against Indiana State.

  • Last weekend, Lipscomb went 4-0 at the Samford Invitational with a pair of wins against both the host Samford and Indiana. They now have five wins against “Power Five” schools. Senior Abby Fenichel batted a blistering 8-11 in the four games.
  • Lipscomb started off 2018 be defeating the ACC’s Georgia Tech 1-0 thanks to a 17 strikeout performance from junior Mandy Jordan at the Sand Dollar Classic.
  • In game two of the season, junior Jordan Fortel no-hit No. 14 Ole Miss in leading the Lady Bisons to a 3-0 win over the nationally-ranked Rebels. Fortel was named the ASUN Pitcher of the Week for her efforts.
  • After the 2-0 start at the Sand Dollar Classic, Lipscomb was receiving votes in both the Collegiate Softball Poll and the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll.
  • Last weekend, the Lady Bisons went 3-2 at the EMU Madeira Beach Spring Invite with wins against Virginia, George Mason, and Ohio.
  • Jordan went 2-0 over the weekend. She compiled an ERA of 1.40, threw 19 strikeouts, and allowed only seven runs and nine hits. She earned her fourth-career ASUN Pitcher of the Week for her efforts.
