Softball ranked 56th in first RPI release

NASHVILLE – The NCAA announced the first softball RPI rankings of the 2018 season this week, and Lipscomb is ranked 56th after a strong start to the year.

The Lady Bisons are the second-highest rated team in the ASUN. The conference has five of the top-80 teams in the rankings.

FGCU is the highest-ranked ASUN team at 42, with Kennesaw State (63), USC Upstate (71), and North Florida (79) following Lipscomb.

During their 18-7 start to the season, the Lady Bisons have faced nine other RPI top-100 teams: Ole Miss (35), Northwestern (37), Houston (45), Georgia Southern (48), UNC-G (53), Iowa State (60), Georgia Tech (82), Ohio (89), and Bradley (100).

Lipscomb’s record is 7-4 in those games, including a 3-0 win against Ole Miss.

The Lady Bisons will start ASUN play against the three-time defending conference champions USC Upstate on Saturday.

The two teams will play a doubleheader at Draper Diamond on Saturday, followed by a Sunday tilt to close out the series.
