Softball headed to Stetson for first ASUN road trip

Nashville - The Lipscomb softball team is set to take their first road trip of the conference season over the weekend as they head to Florida to take on Stetson.

The Lady Bisons (22-9) and the Hatters (21-12) will be playing on doubleheader on Friday, followed by a series closer on Saturday.

On Friday, the day will start at noon with the second game schedule for 2 p.m.

On Saturday, the two teams will close out the weekend with another noon first pitch.

Scouting the Hatters:

  • The Hatters closed out non-conference play having won five of the last six, including two of three from Manhattan most recently.
  • Stetson opened ASUN dropping two of three games at FGCU.
  • Ashly Smith leads the Hatters at the plate with a .447 batting average and 46 hits.
  • Tori Perkins sports a 13-6 record and a 2.07 ERA on the mound for Stetson.

 

QUICK HITS:

  • In their last outing, Lipscomb defeated Louisville 3-1 in a midweek matchup at Draper Diamond.
  • Lipscomb currently ranks 54th in the RPI standings, up two spots from the first rankings of the season. The Lady Bisons are 9-6 against RPI top-100 teams on the season.
  • Lipscomb started off 2018 be defeating the ACC’s Georgia Tech 1-0 thanks to a 17 strikeout performance from junior Mandy Jordan at the Sand Dollar Classic.
  • In game two of the season, junior Jordan Fortel no-hit No. 14 Ole Miss in leading the Lady Bisons to a 3-0 win over the nationally-ranked Rebels. Fortel was named the ASUN Pitcher of the Week for her efforts.
  • After the 2-0 start at the Sand Dollar Classic, Lipscomb was receiving votes in both the ESPN.com/USA Collegiate Softball Poll and the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll.
  • At the EMU Spring Invite, Jordan went 2-0 over the weekend. She compiled an ERA of 1.40, threw 19 strikeouts, and allowed only seven runs and nine hits. She earned her fourth-career ASUN Pitcher of the Week for her efforts.
  • Jordan earned her second Pitcher of the Week after her two wins against IUPUI and Bowling Green. She is now 12-2 on the year with a 1.03 ERA.
  • The Lady Bisons have nine wins against “Power Five” schools this season.
  • Freshman Caitlin Turner sports a team-high .330 batting average so far this year.
  • Senior Abby Fenichel leads with four home runs and 16 RBI.
