LakePoint, Ga. – Five Lipscomb softball players earned ASUN honors on Tuesday as the league announced its yearly awards and All-ASUN teams.
Lipscomb’s haul was led by sophomore Hannah DeVault who is taking home the first Defensive Player of the Year award in program history.
DeVault started every game at second base for the Lady Bisons, steadying the Lipscomb defense with her consistent play.
She posted just three errors all season and one in conference play for an ASUN-leading .982 fielding percentage at her position.
The Corryton, Tennessee native was also named to the All-Conference Second Team, highlighting both her offensive and defensive prowess.
In ASUN play, DeVault tied for the conference lead with seven doubles. Overall, she is fourth in the ASUN and first on the team with 26 walks drawn. She finished the season with a .283 average, 39 hits, a team-high 25 runs, eight doubles, four home runs, 12 RBI, and a .404 OBP.
Junior Sarah Higgins represented the Lady Bisons on the All-Conference First-Team.
The third baseman leads Lipscomb and is 10th in the ASUN with a .336 batting average, which moves up 22 points to fourth in conference play at .358.
She is tied for first on the team and third in the ASUN with 13 doubles and leads Lipscomb in hits (51), slugging percentage (.539), and total bases (82).
The Murfreesboro, Tennessee native also launched six home runs and is in the top 10 in conference play in seven categories: average, doubles, total bases, slugging, hits, OBP, and RBI.
Joining DeVault on the Second Team were Lipscomb’s pair of seniors Abby Fenichel and Caitlin Plocheck.
Fenichel leads the ASUN with 17 RBI in league play, finishing with 34 overall on the season for the third-best mark in the conference and the best on the team.
The catcher has been captain clutch for the Lady Bisons all season, posting a team-high .356 (16-45) batting average with runners in scoring position.
Four of her team-high seven home runs came in ASUN play, the second-highest mark in the league.
The Clermont, Florida finished in the top 10 of seven categories in conference play: home runs, RBI, doubles, total bases, slugging, hits, and OBP.
Plocheck earned All-Conference honors for the second season in a row after her First-Team appearance last year.
The first baseman’s .364 batting average in ASUN play is the fourth-best mark in the league.
She also finished in the top 10 in hits, slugging percentage and total bases during league play.
The Houston native was one of only three players to notch 20 hits in the conference portion of the schedule.
Catilin Turner was unanimously voted onto the All-Freshman Team.
Her .301 batting average is third among all freshmen in the ASUN and second on the team.
She also finished 10th in the ASUN and led Lipscomb with 15 stolen bases.
Lipscomb begins tournament play on Wednesday with a 4:30 p.m. first pitch against No. 5-seeded Jacksonville.
