Softball signs nine student-athletes for 2018-19 class

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb softball and head coach Kristin Ryman have announced the signing of nine student-athletes to the 2018-19 recruiting class.

"This is the second largest recruiting class I have ever brought in, but with a large group of seniors this year, this class has a chance to come in and make an impact right away,” Ryman said.

“There is a lot of versatility in this class, but what I love most about them is their approach to the game. They are competitors who know how to win. They have played at the highest levels of travel ball and been very successful. They work on their own, and they understand the blue collar mentality.”

For a team that will graduate a class of seven seniors after the upcoming spring season, this signing class will be key to replenish the roster.

“We have never wanted to recruit players we feel are nearing their peak, and this class has so much upside and so much ability to keep improving,” Ryman said. “They are each bringing different strengths to the table, but we know their athleticism as a whole will make us better.

“In addition, they are incredible people and students who will thrive at Lipscomb. Their families are so supportive, and we are so excited they have officially joined the Herd."

Alana Collins | MIF/3B | Greeneville, Tenn. |Greeneville HS | East Cobb Bullets

"Alana is going to be a fun player to coach from day one. She brings a natural leadership that is hard to teach, and she reminds me of type of player I was. She loves to play the game no matter the circumstances, and is a player who respects what this game has given her. Her versatility in the infield is going to impact us early, and her ability to hit for a high average from the left side will make her a valuable piece of our lineup. Ultimately, it is her high expectations and competitiveness that will challenge everyone around her to be better."

Kyndall Crawford | OF | Eden, N.C. |Morehead HS |Lady Lightning Gold Demarini Platinum

"I cannot wait to coach Kyndall. She is a gamer and just loves to play and compete. She is a spark plug type of player who always seems to be in the middle of her team's success. She is a top of the order type of hitter who can jump start an offense, but one of the things I like most about her is her toughness and ability to find a way. I love Kyndall's approach to the game and her excitement about being an impact. She will be a key player for us early in her career."

Meghan Kline | IF/OF | Fort Myers, FL| Fort Myers HS | Panthers Gold

"We are very excited about Meghan because she is just scratching the surface with how good she can be. She can play nearly every position on the field, and that versatility will make her extremely valuable for us right away. Her athleticism and ability to adapt and grow as a player make us very excited about her future. Meghan is a five tool type of player in the making, and we can't wait to get her on campus."

Presley Leebrick - OF - Murfreesboro, TN - Siegel HS - Jacksonville Storm - Addison Davis

"We were so excited to be able to add a player of Presley's caliber late this fall. She is a difference-maker slapper with a ton of experience in the top of the order. She is a true student of the game and uses all of her tools to find ways to beat the defense. Defensively, she can take hits away in the outfield with her speed and reads. Presley is the perfect fit for Lipscomb, and will be an impact player right away."

Ashley Montoya - C/3B - Fort Pierce, FL - John Carroll HS - Panthers Gold - Jeff Stevens

"Ashley has power for days. We can't wait to get her here and get to work because she has a very high ceiling. She is a blue collar type of player who is not afraid to work for what she wants. She is a middle of the order hitter who can be counted on to drive in runs, and she is a competitive corner who loves to challenge the short game. Behind the plate, she works well with her pitchers and controls the game well. Ashley has a chance to be a really special player before her career is over."

Kelly Paulson | 2B/OF | Buford, Georgia | Buford HS | Team GA

"Kelly is a player who has been overlooked for years because of her size, but she always seems to find a way to rise to the top. She is a smart player who knows her strengths and plays to them. She is a very polished infielder and slapper, and is very mindful and intentional about how she plays the game. Kelly is a very well-rounded person who fell in love with Lipscomb as soon as she stepped on campus, and we are so pumped that she's joining the Herd."

Elise Shewmaker | IF | Lexington, Kentucky | Lexington Christian Academy | TN Illusions

"I am thankful that Elise chose Lipscomb because she definitely found her fit. She brings a consistency to the game in both her effort and her production, and an intensity to show up and get the job done. Elise is a smart player who we look forward to seeing grow even more. She is well-rounded defensively and has a big upside offensively. Elise is a feisty competitor, and she will be the kind of player that can make everyone around her better. We can't wait to get her in purple and gold."

Kaitlyn Woodside | 3B/1B | Spring Hill, Tenn. | Summit HS | Fury Platinum

"Kaitlyn is going to be an exciting player to watch develop. She is just starting to come into her own and show the type of power at the plate we know she can continue to develop at this level. She is a competitor and hates to lose, and I love that Kaitlyn will immediately bring the mentality needed to be successful at this level. It is so incredibly cool to see a girl who has been coming to our camps for years reach this point in her career. She has a chance to be a really special player for us."

Emily Yakubowski | LHP | Titusville, Florida | Astronaut HS | GA Power Gold

"Emily is our lone pitcher in this class, and was our very first 2019 commit. She is a very crafty lefty with a big upside, and we envision her being very effective for us in the circle right away. She has the ability to use all of her pitches to set hitters up, and she will complement our current pitching staff really well. But it is her work ethic and understanding of the game that will allow her to really take off at our level. We can't wait to get started with her."
