LAKEPOINT, Ga. – With the first pitch of the 2019 season just weeks away, the ASUN announced its preseason honors on Wednesday, and Lipscomb’s Hannah DeVault was voted the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year by the league’s coaches.
DeVault is the reigning ASUN Defensive Player of the Year after a stellar 2018 performance in the field. It was the first time a Lady Bison was given the honor in program history.
Last season, the junior started every game at second base for Lipscomb, steadying the Lipscomb defense with her consistent play.
She posted just three errors all season and one in conference play for an ASUN-leading .983 fielding percentage at her position.
She also earned an All-Conference Second Team spot for her work last season.
Coming off of an All-Freshman Team appearance during her first season in the Purple and Gold, sophomore Caitlin Turner was voted to the Preseason All-Conference Team
In 2018, she was unanimously voted one of the league’s best freshmen after posting .304 batting average, which was third among all freshmen in the ASUN and second on the team.
She also finished 10th in the ASUN and second on Lipscomb with 15 stolen bases.
The Lady Bisons were tabbed to finish fourth in the ASUN in the Preseason Coaches Poll with 44 points, finishing behind ASUN newcomer Liberty (61), FGCU (56), and Kennesaw State (47).
They were 20 points ahead of fifth place North Florida in the standings.
Lipscomb kicks off the 2019 season at the Cowgirl Classic on February 8-10 with outings against Campbell, Samford, Arkansas, and McNeese State. The first matchup will be on Feb. 8 at 10 a.m. vs Campbell.
