ATLANTA – Lipscomb senior Jordan Fortel has been named the ASUN Softball Player of the Week, as announced by the league offices on Monday.
The win was Fortel’s first in the category after previously winning an ASUN Pitcher of the Week honor last season.
Fortel earned this week’s award with a strong weekend at the plate at the Unconquered Invitational.
The Greeneville, Tenn. native notched a hit in all five contests at the Invite, going 7-16 with a .438 average and four RBI.
She boasted a .563 slugging percentage and a .550 OBP for the five games, leading Lipscomb to a 2-2-1 record with the only losses coming to the host and No. 1-ranked team in the nation Florida State.
Fortel is second on the team with a .392 average, the highest for anyone who has played all 15 games, and leads the team with a .478 OBP, 10 RBI, 20 hits, and 28 total bases for the season so far.
Last season, Fortel earned the ASUN and DI Pitcher of the Week honors after no-hitting No. 14 Ole Miss in her first start as a Bison.
Fortel and Lipscomb will play at home for the first time this season this weekend as they host three teams for the Purple and Gold Challenge beginning on Friday afternoon.
