ATLANTA - Lipscomb softball’s Hannah DeVault has been named the ASUN Preseason Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, as announced by the league offices on Wednesday.
The Lady Bisons were also voted in second place with 54 points and two first-place votes in the Preseason Coaches Vote, trailing Liberty (57 points, three first-place votes).
DeVault swept both awards last season after a stellar 2019 campaign. The senior infielder won the program’s second-ever ASUN Player of the Year award after leading the conference in RBI (51), doubles (20), slugging percentage (.614), and extra base hits (27).
She also ranked in the top five with 10 home runs (second), 105 total bases (second), a .443 OBP (fourth), 55 hits (eighth), 40 runs (second), and 38 walks (second). All of those categories were tops on the Lady Bisons, except for runs scored.
DeVault won her second consecutive ASUN Defensive Player of the Year award (the only two instances in program history) after recording 120 putouts and 70 assists with just five errors and a .970 fielding percentage will making a number of crucial plays in the middle infield.
Her exploits earned her a NFCA Third-Team All-Region honor. DeVault and the Lady Bisons qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history, capping a top-notch season with a trip to Tuscaloosa, Alabama for the NCAA Regional.
Lipscomb will begin the 2020 season in less than a month with the Trojan Classic on Feb. 7-9. The Lady Bisons will play five games against Western Kentucky, Troy, and Charleston.
