J.J. Dillingham

J.J. Dillingham has returned to the Lipscomb University softball program as an assistant coach for the third time in his career.

“Everyone needs servant leaders in their program, and J.J. is someone who will be that for us,” Lipscomb coach Kristin Ryman said. “He has a blue-collar approach and will be dedicated to making our program better in any way possible.  He will be involved in every aspect of our program."

"I am a firm believer in having an attention to detail in our program. We believe in doing things the right way, and we have tried to create a culture within our program of hard work, accountability, and family.

From 2002-2005 Dillingham served as an assistant coach for the Lady Bisons softball team as the Lady Bisons made the transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division I.

“J.J. is very familiar with the history of Lipscomb athletics and believes in the goals we have for our softball program,” Ryman said. “He is someone who can be counted on to not only help us with the day-to-day operations in our program, but also with on the field coaching and mentoring of our players.

“J.J. is an extremely loyal person, and I feel that with his knowledge and commitment to the details, we will continue to be able to take our program to the next level."

Dillingham has coached outfielders, all aspects of hitting and offensive fundamentals as well as base running. He also has experience in directing summer camps.

Dillingham started his career at Lipscomb as a student working in the sports information department.  During that time he also served as the public address announcer for basketball and baseball, along with assisting the Lipscomb Radio Network in various roles. From 2000-2002 he was assistant for athletic marketing and media relations coordinator, and was the executive producer for the Lipscomb Radio Network.

While serving as an assistant softball coach Dillingham also was the director of athletic operations.

Dillingham began his coaching career while a student when the softball program began at Lipscomb and served as a student assistant softball coach from 1995-2000 when the Lady Bisons were competing in the NAIA.

In 2005 Dillingham left coaching to work as a Realtor and real estate broker. But he was never too far from the game of softball.

He worked with Gary Davis at Lipscomb Academy from 2007-2012, helping lead the Mustangs to district tournament championships in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012, including advancing to the sectional game in 2008.

Dillingham coached Ryman when she was a member of the Lady Bisons softball team.

"I have known J.J. since my playing days, and he was always a steady part of the program,” Ryman said. “He knows how to get the job done and is a good 'people person'.

“J.J. understands the importance of relationships, and when we began thinking of someone to add to our program in this role, he was one of the first that I thought of.  Not only does he have experience at the DI level, but he has a love for Lipscomb and knows what we stand for.”

Dillingham earned his B.A. degree in Communications from Lipscomb in 2000. He completed his Master of Arts in Learning and Teaching at Lipscomb in 2010, earning his teaching certification in grades K-6.

He and his wife, Angie, and daughter, Brooklyn, live in Cane Ridge, Tenn.
