The short trip down the boulevard was not a very enjoyable one for the Lady Bisons soccer team.
Both host Belmont and Lipscomb sat at the top of the Atlantic Sun Conference standings with 4-0 conference records. Belmont remained undefeated in conference play, beating the Lady Bisons 30-25, 30-20 and 30-16 Thursday night at the Curb Center.
"I give credit to Belmont," said Lipscomb volleyball coach Brandon Rosenthal. "They did a nice job of getting us out of our system. I felt like we didn't work hard enough to get back into our system.
The loss ended a four-game A-Sun winning streak and five-game winning streak overall for the Lady Bisons.
The Lady Bisons led for much of game one.
"I thought we did a great job in the first game," Rosenthal said. "I don't take anything away from that game. That's the way a game should be played. We had a lead and midway through the game we let them back in. But that is going to happen against good teams."
"We have talked about when we are playing tougher opponents that we are going to have to work harder," Rosenthal said. "This was a good learning experience for us."
Belmont placed two players in double figures in kills. Sara Jacobsen made a match-high 12 and Katie Tobiasz added 10.
Ashley Collier was one of three Belmont players with double figures in digs with 15. Erin Janson made 12 digs and Lindsay Cleveland finished with 10.
Brittany Card recorded six service aces for Belmont.
The Lady Bisons are 8-14 overall. Belmont is 17-9 overall.
"We are by no means done with this season," Rosenthal said. "We have to focus day-in and day-out on going to work and outworking teams."
The Lady Bisons practiced Friday and will take Saturday and Sunday off as Lipscomb observes a brief Fall break. Tuesday night Austin Peay visits Allen Arena.
"We lost to Austin Peay in Clarksville in four games, but it was our first match of the season," Rosenthal said. "We have grown quite a bit as team since then. We are worn down, This is a part of the season that is going to be tough, They can use this weekend to regain their composure and focus."
