A lack of rest appears to mean little to the Lipscomb Lady Bisons volleyball team.

After playing a five-game match with Atlantic Sun foe Campbell Friday night, a 3-2 win, the Lady Bisons were back in action Saturday afternoon at Allen Arena. They swept Gardner-Webb 30-19, 30-25 and 30-27 in another A-Sun match. Gardner-Webb also had played Friday night losing to Belmont 3-0.

"Gardner-Webb was coming off of a tough loss," said Lipscomb coach Brandon Rosenthal. "I was a little nervous to see how they would react. I knew we matched up well against them. I was excited to kind of see how we would respond.

"We talked about setting the tone from the beginning, and I thought we did a great job in the first game. The second game was a little frustrating. We were just doing enough to get by. Between games two and three we talked about being better than that. Because we are a better team we have to show it. We can't talk about it."

Game three was a close match, but Rosenthal also used the game to give freshmen Amy Trykowski and Kaley Mohr some playing time.

"That was great for them because they work hard," said Rosenthal. "It was nice to be able to reward them. It was nice that we were able to finish off that last game with both of them on the court. That says a lot about them."

The Lady Bisons have won six of their last seven matches, including the last three in a row, all in the past week. They are 4-1 at Allen Arena this season.

For the second straight match senior Lindsey Rutherford was the sparkplug, recording a double-double with 13 kills, tying her for the match high with teammate Cara Wilber, and 18 digs. Wilber made her kills in only two games.

"I can't say enough about Lindsey," said Rosenthal. "She had a tremendous week. It is nice to see someone who has gone through our program really shine. Her athleticism is unparalleled. She gets the job done when we need to get it done."

"It is not Lindsey's power on the court, but her control. She has an unbelievable amount of hang time which really throws blockers off. They are used to dealing more with boom-boom plays. At only 5-9 she is a tremendous blocker. She has found her niche and really made a great career. She is a quiet leader. She gives us a nice, calm presence on the court."

Alex Scruggs finished with 11 kills and Ashley Cox added 10 for the Lady Bisons. Libero Ann Mullins was credited with a match-high 19 digs. Jessica Turner added 12 digs.

Gardner-Webb did not have a player with double figures in kills. Katie Maykowski made 16 digs. Regina Feagin had 12 digs.

The Lady Bisons are 9-12, 4-1 in the A-Sun. Gardner-Webb slips to 10-15, 3-3 in the A-Sun.
