The Lady Bisons volleyball team got back on the winning track in a big way with 3-0 match sweeps of Lehigh and Chicago State Saturday to earn runner-up honors in the IPFW Invitational Tournament in Fort Wayne, Ind., at the Gates Sports Center.

Senior middle blocker Alex Scruggs and freshman setter Stefine "Jake" Pease were named to the All-Tournament team.

The Lady Bisons dominated Lehigh with a 30-11 win in the first game of the match. They followed with wins of 30-26 and 30-22.

"After losing a tough match to Tennessee Tech last week and tough match to IPFW it says a lot about our players that they came out ready to play against Lehigh and Chicago State," said Lipscomb coach Brandon Rosenthal. "At one point against Chicago State all four of our freshmen were in the game."

Junior outside hitter Sarah Snider made a match-high 13 kills. Senior outside hitter Ashley Cox added 11 and freshman middle blocker Alex Kelly made 10.

Pease was credited with 41 assists. Defensively, senior libero Ann Mullins made a match-high 13 digs.

Scruggs and Kelly both had .500 hitting percentages for the match.

The Lady Bisons closed out the tournament with a 3-0 win over Chicago State, winning easily by scores of 30-14, 30-20 and 30-10.

Cox once again finished in double figures, this time with a match-high 14 kills.

"It was great to see Ashley start and do such a great job," Rosenthal said.

Scruggs had a .438 hitting percentage. Pease recorded 40 assists.

"Alex didn't have an error in either match," Rosenthal said. "She continues to play well offensively and defensively."

Defensively, Mullins once again had a match-high in digs, this time with 17. Pease added 10 digs.

Junior Jessica Turner had three service aces, a match high.

"We have talked about learning from our experiences," Rosenthal said. "We were always in control of both matches from the start. "We played in a humid building without air conditioning. It could have been a tough day."

Lehigh dropped to 1-7 with the loss. Chicago State is 1-10.

The Lady Bisons lost 3-0 to host IPFW Friday night.

The wins raised the Lady Bisons record to 3-6. They are back home at Allen Arena Tuesday night to face Evansville at 7.
