Kelly named CVU National Player of the Week
The Collegiate Volleyball Update ( is pleased to announce that Lipscomb senior Alex Kelly has been selected as the National Player of the Week for Nov. 15 through Nov. 21.

A 6-foot-1 middle blocker from Kansas City, Mo., Kelly helped Lipscomb cap a perfect conference season as she led the Lady Bisons to the Atlantic Sun tournament title.

The No. 1 seed and sporting a 10-0 regular season league record, Lipscomb still needed two victories for the Atlantic Sun title and a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Behind a matching 15 kills and 15 digs against Belmont, Lipscomb got one step closer as Kelly hit .400 and added three blocks in the sweep.

The next match was a greater challenge though, as Lipscomb had to dig itself out of a 2-0 hole. But, Kelly provided 20 kills, 19 more digs, five blocks and three aces while hitting .405 as the Lady Bisons secured their second-straight league title. Lipscomb hasn’t lost a conference match over the past two seasons.

For the tournament, the senior middle averaged 4.38 kills, 4.25 digs and 1.0 blocks per set while hitting .403 en route to MVP honors.

This is Kelly’s second weekly honor as she earned the award in 2008. She was also named to the Stellar Spikers first team in 2009.
