NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb volleyball team was honored early Monday evening with a resolution on the Tennessee State Senate floor presented by Sen. Kerry Roberts for the team’s play during the 2011 Atlantic Sun Championship season.

“It’s a very distinct honor,” said Lipscomb head volleyball coach Brandon Rosenthal. “Never would I have thought that winning championships would lead to something like this but it’s a great honor. I’m excited that once again our program has stepped forward and continues to lead the way.”

The team made the trip downtown and spent a few minutes before the session began visiting with Sen. Roberts, a Lipscomb alum.  The Lady Bison were then escorted onto the Senate floor where Sen. Roberts made the presentation flanked by the Lipscomb squad and staff.

A RESOLUTION to honor and congratulate the Lipscomb University volleyball team upon winning the 2011 Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament Championship.

WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause to specially recognize those athletic teams that, through their magnificent exploits, bring honor to Tennessee and serve as exceptional ambassadors of this State; and

WHEREAS, the Lipscomb University volleyball team, winner of the 2011 Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament Championship, is most assuredly one such estimable team; and

WHEREAS, Atlantic Sun Conference titles are achieved only through hard work,

dedication, and the ability to work together as a team and excel together with a cooperative

spirit; the Lipscomb Lady Bisons exhibited all of these rare qualities throughout their

championship season; and

WHEREAS, under the astute leadership of Head Coach Brandon Rosenthal, the Lady

Bisons won their third consecutive Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament Championship and

made a third consecutive NCAA appearance; and

WHEREAS, the Lipscomb volleyball players have consistently displayed their athletic

prowess over the last three seasons, earning themselves several stellar honors; and

WHEREAS, the team had a 28-4 overall record and a 20-0 Atlantic Sun Conference

record in 2009, a 24-7 overall record and a 10-0 Atlantic Sun Conference record in 2010, and a

20-11 overall record and an 11-2 Atlantic Sun Conference record in 2011; and

WHEREAS, they were the Atlantic Sun Conference Regular Season Champions in 2009

and 2010 and the co-Regular Season Champions in 2011; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Bisons have had eight Atlantic Sun All-Conference Team

selections, three conference All-Freshman Team selections, and eight conference All-

Tournament Team Selections; and

WHEREAS, they have an overall record of 47-2 against conference opponents and a 33-

2 record at home at Allen Arena over the last three years; and

WHEREAS, the Lipscomb University volleyball players are also the recipients of eleven

Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week awards, in addition to numerous other Player of the

Year awards and Tournament MVP selections; and 

WHEREAS, displaying singular sportsmanship and outstanding character throughout

their championship season, the Lady Bisons have conducted themselves in a manner

appropriate to the integrity of the State of Tennessee, and they should be commended; now,

therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we hereby honor and congratulate Head Coach Brandon Rosenthal and the Lipscomb University Lady Bisons volleyball team on winning the 2011 Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament Championship, and extend to them our best wishes for every continued success in all their future endeavors.
