Volleyball set to play four matches Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb volleyball team is set to play against Georgia, Southern Illinois and Tennessee Tech at Allen Arena and at the student activity center on Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m.

Before Saturday’s matches, the Lady Bisons had their first opportunity to play an opponent in the spring schedule on Thursday against Belmont in McQuiddy Gym.

“I was excited to see our girls come out and compete the way they did Thursday night,” Lipscomb coach Brandon Rosenthal said.  “You spend a lot of time playing against each other and it’s always fun in the spring where we get four dates to get out and play outside competition.”

Rosenthal was impressed with what he saw in the match with Belmont.

“I was interested to see how we would compete and I loved what I saw,” Rosenthal said.  “Individually, we saw some really good work.  I thought Jewell Dobson and Molly Spitznagle did a real nice job offensively and defensively.”

“I thought Megan Stout played pretty good all night and I was pretty pleased with her steady play all night.  I thought “Dot” Dotson did a great job intergrating some of the parts of the game that we wanted to see her really work on this spring.  It was great to see Brittnay Estes to get some quality time in there and see some changes she made during the match.”

The spring matches is a great way for the team to put in action what they have been practicing for the past couple of months.

“The really main thing is going out and really trying to execute some of the things that we’ve been working on,” Rosenthal said.

The Lady Bisons play four matches on Saturday starting with Georgia at 9:30 a.m., followed by a match against Southern Illinois at 10:30 a.m. with both matches at Allen Arena.  Georgia and Tennessee Tech also play each other at 10:30 a.m., but the match is at the student activity center.

After a lunch break, the four teams continue to play at 1 p.m.  Southern Illinois and Georgia face each other in Allen Arena, while Lipscomb plays against Tennessee Tech at the student activity center.

The last match of the day is between Lipscomb and Georgia at 2:30 p.m. in Allen Arena.

“The ability to once again play at home and play quality teams at home is awesome,” Rosenthal said.

After Saturday’s matches, Lipscomb once again stays home and faces Trevecca on Tuesday night.
