MACON, Ga. – The Atlantic Sun Conference honored Caitlin Dotson of Lipscomb University and Meredith Hardy of East Tennessee State University as the 2013 Volleyball Scholar-Athletes of the Year to highlight the league’s Academic All-Conference team.

Dotson is a three-time member of the Academic All-Conference Team, boasting a 3.79 GPA in Psychology with a Biology minor.

She is first in the nation in assists per set and has 11 matches with 50 or more assists this season. In early October Dotson tallied her career high of 63 assists vs. ETSU and she has also earned A-Sun Player of the Week (Oct. 2) and Player of the Week for the Tennessee Sports Writers Association (Oct. 22).

She was also one of 30 finalists for the Senior Class Award this season. This is her second A-Sun Volleyball Scholar-Athlete Award.

A Preseason All-Conference selection, Dotson ranks third among career active players with 3,013 assists and is only the second player in Lipscomb history to record more than 3,000 assists in a career. Other program milestones for her include being tied for second in program history in assists in a season, ranking first in assists per set and seventh in digs with 989.

Dotson plans to be a physician's assistant and started a mentorship group called "Linked Lipscomb" which connects athletes with mentors in their chosen professions.

Lipscomb and ETSU each placed two players on the Academic All-Conference Team. Joining Dotson was junior outside hitter Lauren Ford with a 3.94 GPA in Exercise Science.

Hardy is an Exercise Science major who has compiled a 3.879 cumulative GPA and earns A-Sun academic honors for the third time.

The A-Sun Academic All-Conference teams recognize student-athletes who embody the conference’s mission of Building Winners for Life. All the members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or better and participated in at least half of their team’s matches.
