The Lady Bisons volleyball team won the first game, but couldn't take the match against Jacksonville in Atlantic Sun competition.
The Lady Bisons fell 3-1 to Jacksonville Saturday night at Swisher Gym in Jacksonville, Fla. In the first game of the marathon match the Lady Bisons prevailed 30-27, but lost game two 30-26, game three 30-28 and game four 33-31.
"No one wants to lose, but that was a very good and very competitive match," said Lipscomb Coach Brandon Rosenthal. "This was a growing experience. Our players realize they have the capabilities to drive hard and put a team away."
After their success in game one the Lady Bisons stayed close in game two but never had the lead after taking a 10-9 advantage.
In game three the Lady Bisons came back strong, tying the see-saw match at 28-28 on a kill by Alex Scruggs before Jacksonville scored two consecutive points for the win.
Game four was more of the same. The Lady Bisons trailed or we tied most of the way. A kill shot by Lindsey Rutherford gave the Lady Bisons a 30-30 tie. Jacksonville made five tries before finally getting the match point.
"We made a couple of mistakes down the stretch in both games three and four," said Rosenthal.. "Our players know they did some of this to ourselves."
Lipscomb's Ann Mullins finished with a match-high 30 digs, marking the second time this season she has reached the 20-dig mark.
"It was another good match for Ann," said Rosenthal.
"Alex played extremely well throughout the trip," said Rosenthal.
Six Jacksonville players finished in double figures in digs. Three had double figures in kills. Jacksonville played only seven players during the match due to injury problems.
The Lady Bisons slipped to 12-18, closing out the A-Sun portion of the regular season with a 5-4 record. Jacksonville is 13-13, 8-1 in the conference.
The Lady Bisons will be the fourth seed in the A-Sun Tournament Nov. 18-19 at Belmont. They will face Mercer in the first round.
