Lady Bisons put in strong efforts at Pepperdine Tournament

Sunny Southern California beckoned as the Lipscomb Lady Bisons headed to Malibu for the first of three tournaments this season.

The Lady Bisons lost all three matches in the Asics Classic hosted by Pepperdine Friday and Saturday at the Firestone Fieldhouse.. In the first round the Lady Bisons missed a good chance of an upset, falling to Arizona 30-27, 30-20, 23-30 and 30-24.

Sarah Snider made a match-high 19 kills for the Lady Bisons. Erin Pierce added 11 and freshman Alex Kelly pitched in with nine.

Defensively, four Lady Bisons finished in double figures with digs. Ann Mullins led with 12, Jessica Enderle and Snider both had 11 and Grace Gilmore was credited with 10.

On Saturday the Lady Bisons lost to Pepperdine 3-0, dropping games by scores of 30-28, 30-13 and 30-16. The Lady Bisons also lost to Nevada 3-0 (30-18, 30-20 and 30-14.

In the first game against Pepperdine the score was tied 28-28 but a Lady Bisons service error and a key Pepperdine block sealed the game. Pepperdine dominated the rest of the match posting hitting percentage of .487 in game two and .394.

In the Pepperdine match Kelly led the Lady Bisons with 10 kills. Mullins posted 15 digs.

In the Nevada match Kelly once again led the Lady Bisons in kills with seven. Mullins was credited with 16 digs.

Pepperdine won the tournament title with a 2-1 record. Also posting 2-1 marks were Nevada and Arizona.

Kelly was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Lady Bisons, 1-3, are back at home Tuesday night against Tennessee Tech at Allen Arena.
