Lady Bisons have rough day in Blue Raider Bash

The Lady Bisons lost their second match of the Blue Raider Bash to Loyola-Marymount with set scores of 19-25, 20-25, 25-23, and 19-25.

"We played well all day," head coach Brandon Rosenthal said. "We just have to finish. We're playing well to 20 and then have a hard time getting those last five points."

The Lady Bisons entered this tournament knowing the level of competition was going to be tough.

"The A-Sun has no comparison to the teams at this tournament," Rosenthal said. "But this is the direction out program is going. Losing sucks right now but I want to go into conference play knowing we've played better competition."

The team managed to win one of the four sets with the help of sophomore middle blocker, Alex Kelly, who had 14 total kills in the match for a kill percentage of .462.

Freshman outside hitter Katie Rose contributed 12 digs. She also added 11 kills for a double-double.

Senior defensive specialist Jessica Turner added 10 digs.

Junior opposite Erin Pierce led both teams in blocks with a total of four.

Junior middle blocker Amy Trykowski also chipped in with 11 kills.

Megan Nash of Loyola-Marymount finished the game with a .562 kill percentage while her teammate Becky Stehling was close behind with .545.

"I'm pleased with our overall performance," Rosenthal said. "But we're not just here to play tough and go home. We're here to win."

The Lady Bisons will get one more chance at a win in the tournament Saturday at noon when they face off against Florida International on the campus of MTSU.
