MACON, Ga. – Lipscomb and FGCU will face off at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon inside FGCU’s Alico Arena in the Atlantic Sun Match of the Week. The co-leaders met two weeks ago in Nashville, Tenn., with the Eagles earning a five-set victory.
Lipscomb will look to avenge its lone conference loss by ending FGCU’s long and daunting home win streak. FGCU currently owns a 31-match home win streak entering Friday’s contest with Belmont. Out of those 31 wins, 23 have come in 3-0 sweeps. The Eagles are 39-1 all-time in Alico Arena. The Eagles have won 32 matches in 3-0 fashion. FGCU has never played a five-game match in Alico Arena.
Alex Kelly, a three-time Player of the Week in 2008 leads Lipscomb. She paces the conference in hitting percentage with a mark of .331 as well as in kills per set (3.88). Kelly won her third Player of the Week accolade last week turning in a pair of double doubles. She had 18 kills, a team high, and 12 digs in a 3-1 win at Mercer and a match-high 22 kills and 16 digs in a 3-1 win at Kennesaw State. Kelly will enter the weekend with an active streak of seven straight double-doubles.
While Kelly leads A-Sun individuals in hitting percentage, FGCU leads in the league among teams in that category at .241. Sunday’s contest features the conference’s top two in assists. Lipscomb’s Jake Pease leads averaging 9.89 per set while Roberta Santos averages 9.35.
