Friday morning the Lady Bisons swept Furman 3-0 in the first match of the Gamecock Invitational hosted by the University of South Carolina in Columbia. It was the fourth straight match sweep for the Lady Bisons, 6-2. Furman slipped to 2-5.
The Lady Bisons won by scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-18.
“We went about doing our business really well,” Lady Bisons coach Brandon Rosenthal said. “This is the one match this season where I have been the most pleased with how we executed our game plan.
“We went out there and did what we were supposed to do. We were never behind in the match. That was a fun thing, but I didn’t realize that until the very end.”
Middle blocker Alex Kelly led with a match-high 17 kills. She also had a match-high .441 hitting percentage.
Outside hitter Meghan Hinemeyer recorded a match high 17 digs. Freshman libero Stephanie Rex was credited with 10 digs. “I wanted to win this match and make it known what we are all about,” Rosenthal said.
Friday at 4 p.m. the Lady Bisons will face South Carolina State, a 3-0 loser to host South Carolina earlier in the day.
