NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Kaycee Green helped the Lipscomb volleyball team to extend its home opener winning streak to seven matches with a win over Appalachian State 3-0 in the Lipscomb Invitational.
The senior got off to an outstanding start against the Mountaineers (0-5). Green had seven kills in nine total attempts for a hitting percentage of .778 after the first set as LU won 25-11.
Green finished the match with 15 kills, while sophomore Jewell Dobson had 14 kills in the last two sets and finished with 15 kills.
“We were doing a nice job moving the ball around and as we moved into the second set, we wanted to get Dobson going,” Lipscomb coach Brandon Rosenthal said. “We had a good feeling that this side was going to be working and it did.”
The volleyball team won the second set 25-18 and won the third set 28-26.
The last time the Lady Bisons (1-3) dropped a home opener was against Austin Peay in the 2005 season.
Sophomore Lauren Ford led the team with 17 digs and is second on the team with 45 digs. Junior Stephanie Rex was second with 14 digs and leads the team with 59 digs.
Junior Caitlin Dotson had 43 assists and leads the team with 140 assists on the season.
The Lady Bisons will return to action tonight against the fourth NCAA participant this season as they play against Missouri at 7:30. LU finishes up the tournament against Houston on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 2:30 p.m.
“Missouri is going to be a tough match,” Rosenthal said. “That’s what this pre-conference is all about. We’ve got to be able to dig down deep and find out what we’re all about.”
