TUCSON, Ariz. –Lauren Ford continued her fantastic day as the Lipscomb volleyball team beat Iona 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-23) in the Arizona Invitational at the McKale Memorial Center on Friday night.

The sophomore tied her career-high with 19 kills that she set earlier in the day against TCU.  In two matches of the tournament, Ford has 38 kills and 12 digs.  Ford had another outstanding second set by having eight kills against Iona.  She had 10 kills in the second set in the first match of the day.

"Lauren Ford is doing a much better job this season compared to last season on her hitting percentage," Lipscomb head coach Brandon Rosenthal said.  "Last year, she would have taken more attempts to get those kills."

The Gaels (2-7) had pulled within one point early in the first set 8-7, but the Lady Bisons (3-6) pulled away with a 10-2 run and never looked back as they took the first set 25-17.

The second set was very similar to the first one where Iona and Lipscomb were tied early in the set at nine, but once again, LU pulled away by scoring five consecutive points and won the second set 25-19.

The Lady Bisons pulled away from the very beginning of the third set.  But the Gaels were not finished as they scored six consecutive points to pull within one, 24-23, but senior Kaycee Green finished out the set and the match with her 12th kill of the match.

"The girls came with a sense of urgency," Rosenthal said.  "I was impressed with the girls that they rose to the occasion.  It shows that we are moving in the right direction and are learning from our mistakes."

Freshman Rachel Reed made her college debut and played in all three sets notching seven assists and two digs.

Caitlin Dotson nearly missed out on a double-double last match, but was able to complete that feat in the night match.  The junior had 29 assists and 11 digs against Iona giving her a total of 70 assists and 20 digs in the tournament.

The Lady Bisons play against host Arizona tomorrow at 2 p.m. to finish the Arizona Invitational.
