BOWLING GREEN, Ky. –The Lipscomb volleyball team came up short 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-11) against Western Kentucky in their last game before the conference schedule starts at E.A. Diddle Arena on Tuesday night.

The Lady Bisons (3-8) kept pace with Western Kentucky (10-3) early in the first set, down 7-6, but WKU scored the next six points to extend their lead.  LU made a great charge at the end to pull within five, but the Lady Toppers won the first set 25-20.

The second set was closely contested and Lipscomb trailed only one at 21-20 but a four-point rally for WKU closed out the set for the 2-0 lead.  With the 2-0 lead, the Lady Toppers jumped out in front and cruised to a 25-11 win to earn the sweep.

“The first two sets, I thought we did some nice things and created some great opportunities for us,” Lipscomb head coach Brandon Rosenthal said.  “The message between two and three was that we are right in it.  We just had to continue creating that pressure.  Western Kentucky’s a great team and they did a nice job.”

Sophomores Jewell Dobson and Lauren Ford led the team with 11 kills, while junior Stephanie Rex led the team with eight digs.

Caitlin Dotson continues to track toward her 1,000th career assist.  She added 31 assists to give her a total of 941.

Western Kentucky was the sixth opponent that the Lady Bisons have faced this season that made the NCAA Tournament last season.

The Lady Bisons start their conference schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 18 on the road against Northern Kentucky at 6 p.m. in Highland Heights, Ky.
