A-Sun Volleyball Tourney returning to Lipscomb

MACON, Ga. - The Atlantic Sun Conference has selected Lipscomb University as the host site for the 2015 Atlantic Sun Volleyball Championship, the league announced on Friday.

For the fifth time since 2005, the Atlantic Sun Volleyball Championship will head to Nashville, Tenn., with Lipscomb University serving as host at Allen Arena. Lipscomb last served as host of the conference volleyball championship in 2012. The selection process for the 2015 championship concluded this week with Lipscomb being the unanimous choice to host.

The Atlantic Sun Volleyball Championship is scheduled for November 19-21.

"Lipscomb serves as a tremendous host site for A-Sun postseason events with its outstanding venues and the unmatched support from the staff and the entire Bisons community. We look forward to heading back to Nashville for volleyball next fall," Atlantic Sun Commissioner Ted Gumbart said. "Student-Athletes, families and fans will enjoy exciting volleyball action, great hospitality from Lipscomb and all that the Nashville setting offers. We look forward to returning to Allen Arena for our next volleyball championship."

The commissioner's sentiments were echoed by Lipscomb Athletics Director Philip Hutcheson.

"Nashville has a reputation as a great visitor destination, a great sports town and interest in volleyball in the middle Tennessee area is at an all-time high," Hutcheson said. "It is a testament and honor to our city, campus and staff that the league voted to return the tournament to Nashville after a two-year absence.

"We are certainly thrilled to host the A-Sun championship again here on campus at Allen Arena. It will be another great opportunity for us to put on a first-class championship for the student-athletes around the league and a chance to play in front of our loyal fan base.”

Lipscomb became the first Atlantic Sun Volleyball team to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament in 2014. Head Coach Brandon Rosenthal is excited to bring the tournament to Allen Arena in front of a continually growing volleyball fan base.

"I am excited to have another possible opportunity to have our program playing in front of the great fan base that we have established over the past 10 years," Rosenthal said. "Allen Arena is a terrific venue and I have always been extremely impressed with the efforts of the Lipscomb Athletics staff when it comes to championship events.

“Lipscomb and the city of Nashville are a perfect pair to host and create a tournament like atmosphere and experience that all the student-athletes will remember. “
