Lipscomb Volleyball is a family affair

NAHSVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb Lady Bisons volleyball is more than a program. It is a family.

Saturday will be a reunion of former players. A match pitting the alumni players against the current team is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Allen Arena. After that the group will get together for a private dinner.

“It is a fun thing for us,” Lipscomb coach Brandon Rosenthal said. “It is always good to have the alumni back and have them meet the new girls.

“It represents what we are all about. Every year is a little bit different because you never know who is going to be able to be there. It gives us a sense of family. It is important to me to always include them. It has taken 12 years but the family has grown. I am very proud of the girls we have out there.”

Rosenthal expects Ann Mullins, Kaycee Green, Abby Fay, Caitlin “Dot” Dotson, Katie Rose, and Erin Pierce to be among the participants.

Rosenthal isn’t allowing himself to be pinned down with a prediction but based on past history the current team is expected to be victorious.

“The starting squad has never been beat, but that is kind of the nature of the sport. Once you step away things change.

“Sometimes the alumni make it competitive. It is fun to see the arguing, joking and the competition.”

The Lady Bisons begin the regular season Aug. 29 and 30 when they head to Lawrence, Kansas to play in the Kansas Invitational. They will face Creighton at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 29 followed by host Kansas at 7:30. They close out the tournament Aug. 30 against Utah Valley at 11:30 a.m.
