No. 1 in A-Sun volleyball standings on the line in Florida

The top three teams in the Atlantic Sun will be putting it on the line this weekend starting with a confrontation for first place.

The Lipscomb volleyball team will open Friday night at 5 p.m. against Florida Gulf Coast at Alico Arena in Fort Myers. One team will no longer be unbeaten in the A-Sun at the end of the match.

The Lady Bisons, 11-6 overall, are 5-0 in the conference. Florida Gulf Coast is 12-7 overall, 5-0 in the conference.

The match will be televised live on EPSN3.

Saturday at 12 p.m. the Lady Bisons head to central Florida to face Stetson, third in the conference, in DeLand, Florida. Stetson, 12-6, 4-1, will play Northern Kentucky Friday night.

The Lady Bisons opened the week rated 49th in the RPI.


SCOUTING FGCU:
It will get a little streaky Friday night. The Lady Bisons have won five matches in a row. Florida Gulf Coast has won the last seven, including a 3-1 non-conference win Tuesday night against Florida A&M.
The Lady Bisons are 10-4 overall against FGCU and are 4-2 at Alico.

Middle blocker Olivia Mesner leads in hitting percentage in conference matches only at .452. Setter Gigi Meyer is the assist leader overall (11.44) and in conference matches only (12.79).

In A-Sun play Mesner is third in kills with 3.95 per set. Outside hitter Eleonora Kazarian is fourth with 3.74 per set.

Libero Whitney Masters is fourth in conference matches in digs with 4.89 per set and also fourth overall with 4.13 per set.

Overall FGCU also leads the conference in assists (12.79 per set) and also in conference matches with a 13.89 per set average.

FGCU is second in hitting percentage in conference matches with a .219.


SCOUTING STETSON:
Stetson brings a four-match winning streak into the weekend.

The Lady Bisons are 14-1 overall against Stetson. After losing the first meeting in the series the Lady Bisons have won the last 14.

Outside hitter McKenna Foster is the A-Sun Freshman of the Week, the second time she has received the honor. She is seventh in the A-Sun overall in kills per set and fourth in aces per set. In conference matches only Foster is 10th with 3.21 kills per set.

Right side Madison Akins is fifth with 3.71 kills per set.

Middle blocker Jessica Armstrong is second in conference matches with a .344 hitting percentage and ninth in kills with 3.38. Shelby Connors is seventh with a .253.

Setter Kayla Weller is third in conference matches only in assists with 11.33.
Stetson has won four matches by 3-2 scores.


A GOOD DEFENSE
Defense will be the word this weekend. Overall Florida Gulf Coast has a .185 opponent hitting percentage and Stetson is second at .186 overall.

In conference matches only Lipscomb is leading with a .145 percentage followed by FGCU at .146 and Stetson in third at .164.


LADY BISONS IN THE CONFERENCE
Overall in conference matches Lipscomb is ranked second in assists (12.46) and kills (13.29). They are fourth in hitting percentage (.194) and blocks (1.78).

In A-Sun matches only Lipscomb is first in opponent hitting percentage (.145) and is tied for first in kills with FGCU with 14.37 per set.

They are second in assists (13.42) and third in hitting percentage (.212), blocks (2.16) and digs (16.42).
Individually outside hitter Lauren Ford is second overall in kills (3.79) and second in conference matches only (4.11).

Middle blocker Molly Spitznagle is fifth overall in hitting percentage (.251) and Ford is ninth (.238).
Setter Kayla Ostrom is second in assists in both the conference overall (10.85) and in A-Sun matches only with 12.05.

Libero Bri McCombs is fifth overall in digs with 3.92 per set. Outside hitter Sophie Kellerman, the A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week, is 10th in conference matches only with 3.42 digs per set.
McCombs is third in conference matches only in service aces with .47 per set.

Right side Brittnay Estes is 10th with .26.


IT’S GETTING STREAKY
Spitznagle has been in double figures in kills in her last three matches. Ford also has double figures in kills her last three matches.

Kellerman has double figures in digs in her last four matches including a career high 19 against Jacksonville Oct. 10.

DOUBLING UP
Estes opened the season with her first ever triple double with 12 kills, 10 assists and 12 digs. Since then she has added five double-doubles including 14 kills and 14 digs against North Florida in her last outing with the Lady Bisons Oct. 11.

Kellerman has three double-doubles. Her last was Oct. 11 against North Florida with 10 kills and 14 digs.

FORD CLIMBS CAREER LADDER
Ford has moved into second place all-time on Lipscomb’s career kills list with 1,397. She is in sixth place in the A-Sun in kills in a career.
