Ford named to Capital One Academic All-America First Team

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb senior outside hitter Lauren Ford has been named to the first team of the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I volleyball team.

The members of the team are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Ford is the first member of the Lipscomb volleyball program to receive the prestigious national award, which is based on both academic and athletic accomplishments.

This season has been one filled with awards for Ford. She was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-South Region Team. She was also an Atlantic Sun First Team All-Conference selection.

Academically, Ford, from Lenexa, Kansas, was named Atlantic Sun Scholar Athlete of the Year for volleyball.

Ford is a two-time District 3 Capital One Academic First Team All-District selection by CoSIDA. She is the only Lipscomb volleyball player to earn that honor twice in her career.

She leaves the Lipscomb program with the second highest total in career kills (1,597), third best ever in the Atlantic Sun.

Ford is the first A-Sun Volleyball student-athlete in history to earn First Team Academic All-America.

She is the first A-Sun volleyball player since 2002 to be named to any Academic All-America Team. There were two named to the third team in 2002.

Her selection now gives the A-Sun 3 Total Student-Athletes in history to be honored as Academic All-American

A first, second and third team are named. Thirteen of the 18 members of the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I volleyball team have at least a 3.90 GPA, with five student-athletes sporting a perfect 4.0 GPA The 18 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I volleyball team members have an average GPA of 3.86.

Ford has a 3.96 average in exercise science. She is a member of the Tennessee Kappa chapter of Alpha Chi.

The Capital One Academic All-America® first team includes four student-athletes whose teams advanced to the NCAA tournament including Ford. The Lady Bisons lost 3-0 to Ohio State in the first round at Lexington, Kentucky.
