NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb volleyball coach Brandon Rosenthal has announced the addition of Justin Beachy as a volunteer assistant coach.
Beachy, 24, served last season as an assistant coach at Messiah College. Beachy earned a bachelor’s degree from Messiah in mathematics in 2013. He also completed a two-year master’s in higher ed with a focus on athletic management in May of this year.
“He is the son of a coach,” Rosenthal said. “He has been around the game quite a bit.
“Talking to him you can tell he has a passion, not only for the game itself, but wanting to know how to become a better coach. It is always interesting to hear that from a coach’s kid. He knows a lot, but for someone who wants to get out and learn more from other people says a lot about him. I think that is pretty cool.”
Beachy was a four-year started on the men’s club volleyball team at Messiah. All four seasons he was named to the National Club Volleyball Federation (NCVF) All-Tournament Tea. The Messiah club team won the NCVF National Championship in 2013.
A native of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Beachy was a two-time all-state player at Carlisle High School. He worked two seasons as an assistant coach at Carlisle while completing his degree at Messiah.
His original career plan was to be a math teacher and coach high school volleyball, but he decided coaching at the college level was an attractive option.
Beachy admits he was not familiar with the Lipscomb program when he applied. A friend of his from college was moving to Nashville so he decided to take a look at volleyball programs in the Nashville area.
“I saw that Lipscomb was a small, Christian college and that was appealing to me,” Beachy said. “I saw how successful their volleyball program was. I really wanted to be a part of it.
“I didn’t know Brandon at all. I didn’t know anybody down here.”
Beachy will be involved in all phases of the program. He is also looking for another job to help pay his expenses.
“I love it here,” Beachy said. “I love the coaching staff. We have had a good time. They are all extremely knowledgeable about the game. And the girls are awesome too. I am looking forward to the year.”
