Volleyball seeking a win at Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. – Two teams on very different streaks will meet Wednesday evening.

Lipscomb, 5-4, will be out to stop a four-match losing streak. Ole Miss, 10-1, has won its last six matches.

This is the second time the two schools have met in volleyball. Ole Miss is 1-0 having beaten the Lady Bisons 3-1 in the Magnolia Classic in Oxford in 2005.

Middle blocker Nakeyta Clair has 133 kills for the Rebels, an average of 3.24 per set. Clair also leads the team with a .44 hitting percentage.

Setter Aubrey Edie has 451 assists. Kristen Brashear leads in digs with 144, 3.51 per set.

Right side Kathryn Cather has made 17 service aces. Middle blocker Ty Laporte is credited with 32 total blocks.

Lipscomb is paced by middle blocker Jewell Dobson with 110 kills, 3.24 per set, and 28 blocks. Middle blocker Molly Spitznagle has a .349 hitting percentage.

Setter Kayla Ostrom has 400 assists, an average of 11.43 per set.

Libero Brittany Thomas is credited with 140 digs, 4.0 per set. Outside hitter Lauren Anderson has made 12 service aces.

Ole Miss is coming off a win in its own Rebel Classic. One of the teams the Rebels defeated was Lipscomb rival Belmont by a 3-0 score. 

SEC history

Lipscomb is 2-9 overall against opponents from the Southeastern Conference. The Lady Bisons have posted wins against South Carolina and Missouri in their only meetings with those two schools.

They are 0-3 against Kentucky and Tennessee and 0-1 against Georgia, Auburn and Texas A&M.

Ostrom giving an assist

In the NCAA rankings this week Ostrom is 12th nationally in assists per set. She is 21st in total assists.

She made a season-high 60 assists in a 3-2 loss to CSU Bakersfield Sept. 12th in the Bluejay Invite at Creighton.

Ostrom has made 50 or more assists four times this season and nine times in her career.

She made a career-high 61 assists in 2014 in a 3-1 win over Kennesaw State

Atlantic Sun ratings

Ostrom leads the Atlantic Sun Conference in assists per set.

Dobson is sixth in the A-Sun in kills per set and is eighth with a .298 hitting percentage. Dobson is fifth in total kills.

Thomas is tied for third in total digs. She is fifth in digs per set.

Outside hitter Carly Nusbaum is ninth in kills per set with 2.97. She has 92 total.

Lipscomb is back on the road this weekend, but heading north this time to Evanston, Illinois for the Wildcat Challenge. They will play host Northwestern at 7 p.m. Friday. Saturday they will meet Milwaukee at 2 p.m.
