Goal for volleyball is to remain unbeaten in A-Sun

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb has enjoyed a domination of the Atlantic Sun in volleyball so far.

The Bisons have won all five conference matches they have played so far this season. They have only lost two sets; both in a 3-2 win at Jacksonville Saturday afternoon.

This weekend the Bisons, 12-7 overall, will be out to extend their four-match winning streak against a pair of A-Sun foes. USC Upstate visits Allen Arena Friday night at 6:30 followed by Kennesaw State Sunday at 2 p.m.

Six Bisons have more than 100 kills – middle blocker Jewell Dobson (233), right side Brittnay Estes (211), middle blocker Molly Spitznagle (154), outside hitter Lauren Anderson (135), outside hitter Chloe Rogers (117) and outside hitter Carly Nusbaum (106).

As a team the Bisons lead the conference in both kills per set and assists per set.

Spitznagle has the best hitting percentage in the conference at .357.

Four Lipscomb players have more than 100 digs – libero Brittany Thomas (292), Estes (177), Lauren Anderson (168) and setter Kayla Ostrom (142).

Live stats will be available for both matches.

Scouting USC Upstate: Upstate enters the weekend with a 12-9 record. The Spartans are 0-5 in the conference. They have lost their last five matches and are 3-5 on the road.

The Spartans have a balanced offensive attack with five players with more than 100 kills. Emily Koelling leads the team with 214. Madison Haake has 201 overall.

Five players have more than 100 digs with four of them passing the 200-dig mark. Shannon Weiss is credited with 251. Haake has 238. Lexi Gober has posted 232 and Kayla Eversgerd has 212 overall.

Upstate leads NCAA Division I in team digs per set with 18.25 and team attacks per set with 40.74.

Haake and Gober are tied for first in the conference in service aces with 28 apiece.

Series record: Lipscomb is 14-0 in the series with Upstate which began in 2007.

Scouting Kennesaw State: Before facing Lipscomb Kennesaw State will be on the road at NJIT Friday night.

The Owls are 10-6 overall, 2-3 in the A-Sun. They are 1-3 on the road.

Anaiah Boyer leads the Owls offensively with 169 kills. Sydni Shelton is close behind with 162.

Katarina Morton is the team leader in digs with 217. She is one of four players with more than 100 digs.

The Owls are second in the conference in blocks. Liesel Engelbrecht sets the pace with 40 total, three solo. Rachel Taylor has 35, six solo.

Series record: Lipscomb and Kennesaw State first played in 2006. The Bisons are 16-0 in the series.

Bisons on national scale: Ostrom is sixth in assists per set with 11.69. She is 11th in total assists with 842.

She leads the A-Sun in both categories.

Estes is ninth in triple-doubles with one.

As a team the Bisons are 13th in assists per set with 13.42. They are 25th in team assists with 966.

They are 27th in kills per set with 14.13 and 32nd in team kills with 1,017.

The Bisons will welcome Belmont to Allen Arena Tuesday night at 6:30 for the second edition of the “Battle of the Boulevard” this season. Lipscomb beat Belmont 3-2 at the Curb Center Sept. 22.
