MACON, Ga. – In a first for the Lipscomb volleyball team outside hitter Carlyle Nusbaum earned both Atlantic Sun Player and Freshman of the Week honors, announced by the league office on Monday.
Nusbaum collects her first career A-Sun weekly awards after leading the Bisons to two conference road wins, including clinching a spot in the A-Sun Championship field. She helped lead Lipscomb to a 3-0 win at USC Upstate and a 3-2 victory at Kennesaw State.
She made the final point in each of the three set wins against Kennesaw State.
Nusbaum, from Overland Park, Kansas, opened her weekend with a new career-high 23 kills at USC Upstate on Friday night. The freshman hit .436 in the victory on 39 total attacks.
Her new career-high only stood for 24 hours as Nusbaum produced 29 kills in a thrilling five-set win at Kennesaw State. In that victory she also produced a new career-high with 17 digs for a double-double.
Nusbaum, a business marketing major, finished the weekend with a team-high 6.50 kills per set and a hitting percentage of .321 combined in both matches. The win at Kennesaw State gave the Bisons some revenge for the only league defeat they have suffered to this point in the season.
