NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Fresh off a 2-1 weekend in the LUV Invite that included a dominant performance over No. 24 Arizona, the Lipscomb volleyball team has put the American Volleyball Coaches Association and the nation on notice.
The Bisons received eight votes Monday in the first releasing of the AVCA Division I Top-25 Coaches Poll, marking the fourth straight season they have earned votes. The vote total would place Lipscomb 38th in the nation.
Lipscomb swept ETSU 3-0 in the season opener and downed Arizona in the tournament’s finale, 3-1. The only loss of the weekend came at the hands of Wichita State, who finds themselves ranked 26th in the latest poll after starting 3-0.
From here the road only gets tougher for the Purple and Gold.
In a span of 15 days over the next three weeks, the Bisons will have road matches against No. 3 Florida, No. 6 Wisconsin and No. 20 Ohio State before coming back to Allen Arena to take on No. 24 Western Kentucky.
The hard slate not only prepares Lipscomb for the ASUN Conference portion of its schedule, but it provides plenty of opportunity for the Bisons to continue its ascend among the national powers.
On tap next for the Bisons is a weekend trip to Columbus, Ohio for the Sports Imports D.C. Koehl Classic hosted by Ohio State. They face Oakland on Friday at 2:30 p.m. before doubling down Saturday with a 9 a.m. match against Missouri State and a 7 p.m. contest with the host Buckeyes.
