Phillips named ASUN Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

LAKEPOINT, Ga. – Lipscomb volleyball’s Maddie Phillips was named the ASUN Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league office Monday.

The Houston, Texas native helped lead the Bisons to their first 3-0 week of the season with wins over Belmont, NJIT and USC Upstate.

Phillips made her presence known on both sides of the net as she totaled 13 blocks and seven digs to go along with 25 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. She had at least four blocks in all three matches.

On Tuesday the sophomore was credited with nine kills and four blocks against Belmont before responding with five kills, five digs and four blocks in a sweep of the Highlanders on Friday.

Phillips then wrapped up the stretch with her most impressive outing of the week Saturday against the Spartans. She registered 11 kills, did not commit an error and hit a career high .611 while also chipping in five blocks – tied for her third most in a match this season.

The middle blocker ranks eighth in the ASUN in hitting (.267) this season and 11th in total blocks (53).

This is the first Defensive Player of the Week honor for Phillips. She was named a Freshman of the Week once in 2016.

Lipscomb is back in action at 6:30 p.m. Friday, October 20 when Kennesaw State visits the Music City. It is the only match of the week for the Bisons.
