Volleyball continues winning streak with 3-1 victory at North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –The Lipscomb volleyball team continued to pick up road victories Saturday evening with a 3-1 win (25-21, 18-25, 25-18, 25-22) over North Florida in ASUN Conference action.

The win was the fourth in a row and it improved the Bisons to 15-9 overall and 10-2 in league play.

“What a great weekend for our girls,” Lipscomb head coach Brandon Rosenthal said. “I am really happy with their fortitude and ability to weather the storm.

“It’s never easy to go on the road, and to go three straight road matches is even tougher, I can’t say enough about how they have played.”

Lipscomb was led by sophomore Megan Kuper who totaled 17 kills while swinging at a .577 clip. It was the second highest kill total of her career. Carli Anderson teamed with her on the right side and added six kills and a .417 hitting percentage.

“We saw some great attacking from Megan Kuper,” Rosenthal. “And another that may not stand out on the box score was Carli Anderson. She really came in and did a knockout job for us from the right side.”

Carlyle Nusbaum chipped in her 13th double-double of the year with 12 kills and 17 digs. Where she was perhaps most impressive was on the other side of the net with three solo blocks and five block assists.

Middle Ca’Layci Coffey added eight kills, a .400 hitting clip and a program record 10 blocks.

“Our blocking was really good and we put unbelievable pressure on them (UNF),” Rosenthal said. “Ca’Layci and Carlyle did a fantastic job as a combo at the net blocking. We are used to seeing them dominate on the offensive side, but they gave us an extra boost on the other side with 18.5 and 14.5 points, respectively.”

The Bisons set a season high with 15.0 blocks. Entering the match the highest had been 11.

“All 14 players played tonight and we needed it,” Rosenthal said. “It was an interesting mix from us with some different offenses. I give our coaching staff a lot of credit tonight to stay in the moment and keep everyone moving.”
