Volleyball swept by FGCU at home

NASHVILLE - In its final home weekend of the season, the Lipscomb volleyball team took on Florida Gulf Coast in a matchup between two of the top teams in the ASUN Conference. The Bisons came in riding high on a four-match win streak, but they were unable to make it five in a row on Friday night falling to the Eagles 3-0 (21-25, 22-25, 17-25) inside Allen Arena.

The Bisons jumped out to an early four-point lead on two occasions before they began trading blows with the Eagles. FGCU ultimately pulled ahead for good at 20-19 and the Bisons were unable to answer.

A large portion of the scoring for the Bisons came by way of freshman Logan Gish. In her third consecutive start, the outside hitter led the way with a team-high 11 kills and a .375 hitting clip.

Senior Carlyle Nusbaum also made key contributions for the Bisons, nearly recording her 14th double-double of the season with nine kills and 14 digs.

The Bisons drop to 15-10 overall and are 10-3 in conference play following the defeat. With just a couple of matches left before the ASUN Championship begins, the Purple and Gold will look to get back on track for senior day Sunday.

QUICK HITS:

  • The Bisons were held to just a .189 hitting efficiency while the Eagles were able to produce a .319 clip.

  • Setter Morgan Elmore came up with 26 assists.
  • Megan Kuper chipped in seven kills, while Maddie Phillips added five.
