Volleyball earns 3-1 Senior Day win over Liberty

NASHVILLE - It was the last home game of the season for the Lipscomb volleyball team on Sunday, which also means it was Senior Day. Before the match versus Liberty, Lauren Anderson, Carli Anderson, Marcella Emmanuelli, Carlyle Nusbaum, and Ca’Lacyi Coffey were honored for the contributions and accomplishments they have made during their outstanding careers at Lipscomb.

With another pivotal conference match, the Bisons, with an overall record of 15-10 and a conference record of 10-3, were looking to avoid back-to-back losses. They would accomplish that goal as they beat the Flames 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-21, 25-19).

The Bisons came out strong with a 5-0 scoring run to close out the first set. Junior Maddie Phillips had a perfect hitting percentage with three kills, while Nusbaum led the way with six kills and two solo blocks.

The second set was a different story as the Flames were able to make a comeback and even the match at one set a piece despite a 7-1 scoring run from the Bisons in the middle of the set.

The rest of the match was tightly contested, as the Bisons were able to squeak out a third set victory after a late push by Liberty and closed out the match with a convincing fourth set victory.

Overall, the Purple and Gold were led by Nusbaum who recorded her 14th double-double of the season by tallying 18 kills and 17 digs. She was also the team leader in points with a total of 22 in her final game at Allen Arena.

Sophomore Megan Kuper also recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. The combo of Kuper and Nusbaum not only provided the offense for Lipscomb, but the defense as well with the two players totaling 6 combined blocks of the team's 10.

QUICK HITS:

  • The Bisons defense held the Flames to just a .169 hitting efficiency, while the Bisons had a .214 clip.
  • Setter Morgan Elmore produced 42 assists and five digs.
  • Lauren Anderson finished second on the team with 14 digs.
  • The Bisons had a total of eight service aces, four by Kuper, compared to just one for the Flames.

UP NEXT: The Bisons will hit the road for the final two games of the regular season with matches on Tuesday, Nov. 6 versus Kennesaw State at 6 p.m. and Friday, Nov. 9 versus Jacksonville at 6 p.m.
