Volleyball inks three for 2019 early signing period

NASHVILLE – Head coach Brandon Rosenthal and the Lipscomb Volleyball program announced the signing of three standouts during the early signing period on Wednesday.

Hailing from the states of Iowa, Indiana and Kentucky, the trio includes – Bree Thompson, Brooklynn Phillips and Lauren Myrick.

“This group of three will be a lot of fun to coach,” Rosenthal said. “I can’t wait to see the desire and effort they bring and what it will do as far as adding to our culture. I have enjoyed getting to know them as individuals and their families through the recruiting process over the past couple of years.

“They are an accomplished group of players that I believe will compete and challenge for playing time right away.  The trio will enhance the depth of talent that we already return for the 2019 roster.”

Learn more about the 2019 recruiting class and see Rosenthal’s thoughts on the newcomers below.

“Bree is no stranger to success as she has just completed her fourth-straight state championship in Iowa. She comes from a hard-working, Midwest type of family. It has been evident through the recruiting process that Bree attacks all that she does with an incredible drive and work ethic. I am confident that Bree will continue to push the limits of where this program can go.”

Brooklynn Phillips | 5-8 | Setter | Indianapolis, Indiana | Franklin Community HS | Circle City

  • One of 52 seniors from the state of Indiana to be named an AVCA Under Armour All-American in 2018

“Brooke possess a vibrant personality with an undeniable drive to better herself on a daily basis.  Early in her club career, Brooke was afforded the opportunity to play multiple positions before settling into the setter role. She’s worked extremely hard to establish herself as an elite setter in the 2019 class. Being left-handed, she adds an offensive element to the game, which I think will pay off dividends immediately. She is very athletic and it will be fun to see how she grows and develops in our gym.”

Lauren Myrick | 5-11 | Outside Hitter | Louisville, Kentucky | Assumption HS | KIVA

  • Guided AHS to a National Championship and a No. 1 national ranking in each of the last two seasons (USA Today, PrepVolleyball) after combining to post an 83-3 overall record
  • Also helped the Rockets to back-to-back Kentucky State Championships in 2017 and 2018
  • Her dad played basketball and her mom played soccer at Thomas More College
  • Plans to major in Law
  • Also recruited by Pittsburgh and Morehead State
  • Favorite TV Show is The Office
  • Favorite book is My Sister’s Keeper

“Lauren is a fierce competitor. She is someone that has played at the highest level at both the high school and club scene over the last couple of years. She will be an immediate asset to our program as she is capable of playing multiple positions.  We anticipate her getting the bulk of her playing time at the pin positions.  Her competitive spirit will continue to enhance the culture we have established here at Lipscomb Volleyball.”
