Billy Ebel

Billy Ebel will begin his first season with the Lipscomb Lady Bisons volleyball team in 2013.

“I’m excited to bring in Billy, there’s no doubt that he will bring a strong work ethic and a fantastic energy level,” Lipscomb head coach Brandon Rosenthal said.  “He’s one of these young coaches that has a great understanding for the game and the running of a program.  He is extremely knowledgeable in the planning and execution of a high level practice.  I am very excited for this addition of Billy to our staff as I know he will pour his heart into LUV.”

Ebel is looking forward to starting his Lipscomb coaching career.

“The main reasons why I wanted to come to Lipscomb were the tradition of the program, the morals of the school and the value of the school,” Ebel said.  “I’ve known Brandon a long time now.  He has recruited a lot of Kansas City kids."

Ebel has ties to some of the former and current Lipscomb volleyball athletes such as Jake Pease, Alex Kelly, Abby Fay and Meghan Hinemeyer because they all grew up in the same area, He has coached Lauren Ford.

Rising junior Ford and Ebel are from the same hometown of Lenexa, Kan.; although they went to rival high schools.

Ebel is replacing former assistant coach Jeff Wismer, who accepted a position at the new Club Director of Alliance Volleyball Club, at the end of April.

Ebel joined the University of Missouri-Kansas City staff in February 2011 as a volunteer assistant coach and later on stayed on the staff as a graduate assistant coach.  He is currently working on his master’s degree in higher education.

“For the last three seasons, I’ve spent time at the UMKC under Christi Posey, who’s had 12 years at KU,” Ebel said.  “I’ve been mentored by her and learned a lot from her.  We turned the program around.  We went 12-17 in my first season, to 17-12 in my second season.

“I’ve learned a lot about coaching, recruiting, establishing my own philosophy and my own coaching staff.  A lot of that goes hand-to-hand with coach Rosenthal’s thoughts and ideas on how we want to represent the program.”

Prior to joining the UMKC staff, Ebel served as a defensive coordinator at Bishop Milege, his former high school team.  He helped the Lady Stags to the 2010 Kansas State Championship.

Ebel served as a volunteer assistant coach at Muncie Burris Laboratory High School in Muncie, Ind., for three seasons.  He helped guide the Owls to the Indiana Class 2A State Championship in each season and one national runner-up finish.

Ebel earned his Bachelor of Science degree in sports administration and management in 2010 from Ball State University.
