The Lipscomb Lady Bisons (0-1) opened their season Friday with a 77-39 loss to the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks (3-0).
Lipscomb Freshman Toia McGowan turned out a bright performance for the Bisons. In 18 minutes of play off of the bench, she scored a team-high 15 points on 5 of 8 shooting from the field and 5 of 6 from behind the charity stripe.
Lipscomb coach Frank Bennett said "Arkansas is a very fine team. I was impressed with our start, but our execution broke down midway through the first half."
The Lady Bisons where unable to hit a basket from 12:47 in the first half until 17:56 in the second half, a span of nearly fifteen minutes on the game clock.
Bennett also said that "I am pleased with our players equaling Arkansas in rebounding in the second half with each team getting 18 rebounds." Julie Martin contributed a team-high 6 rebounds for Lipscomb.
For the Lady Razorbacks, Lauren Ervin paced the team with 14 points. Tanisha Smith and Ervin grabbed 6 rebounds each and three players were credited with 4 assists each.
"It is good to play teams of Arkansas' caliber. Sunday's game against Evansville will be tough as they are a Missouri Valley opponent. Our goal is to get better over the season and compete on each possession with a continual improvement towards the conference tournament in March," Bennett said.
Lipscomb travels to Evansville Sunday for a 6:00 PM CT tip. The Lady Bisons are back in action at Allen Arena Monday night against Fisk. Game time is 6:00 PM.
