Lipscomb's Lady Bisons set a pair of school team records on the way to their first victory of the season.
Monday night the Lady Bisons beat Fisk 93-35 at Allen Arena. The 93 points is the most scored by the Lady Bisons in an NCAA era game since they scored 92 against Fisk Dec. 7, 2005. The 35 points was also a new team record in the NCAA era besting the 37 points Stetson scored Feb. 2, 2006.
The Lady Bisons held Fisk to nine first half points, also a new school record. Fisk was scoreless for the first 4 ½ minutes of the first half, hitting 4-of-28 first half shots for a 14.3 percent rate from the field and nine-of-33 in the second half, for a 27.3 percentage.
The Lady Bisons hit 16-of-35 shots from the field in both the first and second halves for a 47.5 percentage.
The only concern for Lipscomb coach Frank Bennett was the effort of his players in the second half.
"We didn't play a sloppy game," Bennett said. "We did let down a little in the second half, but we were able to get our intensity back. Usually when you lose your intensity like that it is hard to get it back."
Davis also led the Lady Bisons in rebounding with nine. Stephanie Lewis grabbed a game-high 10 for Fisk.
"Fisk played hard the entire game," Bennett said. "They played together. They never let up. In the second half they started shooting the ball well."
Bennett was able to get significant minutes for 12 players. Eleven players scored at least three points. He was impressed by the performances of his reserve players.
"I could talk about almost any one of them," Bennett said. "Jilian Partin has been playing a lot harder the last game or two. She is going to the boards which is something we really need her to do."
Bennett was able to work with his players individually and as a team in a true game setting.
"We had the chance to work on our zone defense which is something we haven't done very much," Bennett said. "We had the chance to work on our confidence. A game like this should help us this weekend."
Ashley Brown led Fisk with 10 points.
The Lady Bisons raised their record to 1-2. Fisk fell to 0-2.
Friday morning the Lady Bisons will be back on the court for a quick workout before heading to Memphis for the University of Memphis Tournament. Friday night they play Austin Peay at 8 p.m. Memphis and Central Arkansas round out the field. The second games will be played at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday.
