Tuesday, December 09, 2008The Lady Bisons closed out the pre-Christmas schedule Tuesday morning with a 74-50 loss at Evansville.
The game was played at 11 a.m. as part of math promotion for area students sponsored by the Evansville women’s basketball team. Both teams showed signs of the effects of the early wake-up call, especially in the first half at Roberts Stadium in Evansville, Ind.
Evansville held a 29-16 halftime lead.
In the second half Evansville led by as many as 29 points.
Freshman guard Anna Bowers scored in double figures for the first time in her college career, leading the Lady Bisons with 14 points. Bowers was a perfect four-of-four from 3-point range, also a season-and-career high.
Forward Cree Nix hauled in a game-high and career-high 11 rebounds. She tied forward Jilian Parting for the most rebounds in a game this season. Nix has led the Lady Bisons in rebounds five times this season and tied for the lead once.
Miriam McAlister made her first start of the season in the post position. She played 16 minutes and grabbed three rebounds, but did not score a point.
Evansville placed three players in double figures. Forward Robyn Jennings scored a game-high 15 points. Guards Ashley Austin and Ashlee Barrett chipped in with 11 points each.
On the boards Evansville held a 49-44 advantage with a balanced rebounding attack.
The Lady Bisons shot 27.9 percent from the field, hitting 17-of-61 attempts. The 61 attempts from the field was a new season-high for the Lady Bisons.
Evansville hit 25-of-66 shots for a 37.9 success rate from the field.
The Lady Bisons will practice the next couple of days and then taper off as final exams begin Friday. They will take a break for Christmas and regroup on Dec. 26 to prepare for the Dayton Flyers Tournament Dec. 28 and 29 in Dayton, Ohio.
The Lady Bisons are 2-7 overall, with both wins coming at Allen Arena.
