NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s basketball team is set to host its second contest of the 2011-12 season on Monday night hosting Austin Peay for a 6:30 p.m. non-conference tilt at Allen Arena.
The Lady Bisons enter the contest 0-1 after dropping a 68-59 decision to Air Force on Friday night in Nashville. Lipscomb mounted a strong comeback attempt in the second half rallying from a 16-point deficit to cut the lead to six but could not pull even against the Falcons down the stretch.
“We actually practiced Saturday morning and broke some stuff down,” said Lipscomb head coach Frank Bennett. “We got some individual work in and that was a good session. Today we practiced some more going over Austin Peay stuff.”
The opponent: Austin Peay heads into the “Music City” after winning their opener last Friday night against Southern Illinois 76-70. Senior guard Whitney Hanley torched the Salukis for a career-high 28 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the floor. On the night, the Lady Govs had five players finish in double figures.
Bennett noted Hanley’s effort saying, “Hanley was the key scorer but they had pretty good balance as well. They’ve got six of their top eight back.”
The Lady Govs lead in the all-time series 17-6 including a three-game winning streak at Allen Arena, but Lipscomb took the last meeting in the series with a 63-58 win in Clarksville last season. Lipscomb’s Leah McAlister led the Lady Bisons against the Lady Govs last year with a 13-point night.
Tickets: Tickets for Monday night’s contest are on sale at the Lipscomb ticket office at Allen Arena or online at http://www.LipscombTickets.com
